Browntail Moth Caterpillar (BTM)

Browntail Moth (BTM) caterpillars eat the leaves of many common trees and shrubs in Yarmouth.  Contact with their hairs from can cause skin rashes and irritation, and in some cases, respiratory difficulties. Here are some precautions you can take to protect against Browntail Moth:

  • Wear long sleeves, pants, hats, and gloves in affected areas. 
  • Wash your clothes and body after being in infected areas.
  • Avoid leaf piles and areas that have not been raked or blown.
  • Contact your physician if you have contracted a severe rash. 
  • If you are at risk of respiratory complications make additional considerations.
