Affordable Housing Committee

In December 2020, Yarmouth Town Council voted unanimously to establish an Affordable Housing Committee, to review key issues impacting the quantity, availability, and affordability of housing in the Town. The committee makes recommendations to Council on policy to promote balanced long-term supply of housing options affordable to each demographic, spanning all incomes and age groups. 

In this context, affordable housing means dwellings in which the monthly rent or mortgage payments made by tenants or homeowners do not exceed 30% of household income. Initially, the committee will focus on affordable housing for households with annual income between 50% and 80% of the median family income for greater Portland.

The committee will study the issues and recommend policies to Town Council, do outreach, encourage community input, and collaborate with other communities and organizations.

The committee consists of 7 members.

The Committee typically meets on the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the Town Hall Community Room.
